Introduction

Thanks to the tremendous progress in information and semiconductor technologies, Digital game boom noticeably continues and is a sign of advancement of a nation's technology. Government brought digital game into the digital content as part of the National Development Policy in 2002, which promotes the game industry and increases the demand of game developers. Digital content Industry has been chosen as one of the ten core items of service industry, as proposed by the Finance and Economics Consultation Group of the Office of the President in October 2010. Moreover, digital game and animation are the major items in digital content Industry. To meet the demand in human resources by game industry, the electronic engineering department then reassigned as the applied game technology department scince August 2011.

The department has 7 full time faculty members. Among them, 5 are assistant professors or above and 2 are instructors. In 2015, 1 out of the 2 instructors will earn his doctorate, while both are pursuing their Ph.D. degrees now. The strength of the faculty has reached the faculty standard to meet the requirement for a University of Science and Technology.

The applied game technology department has many on-progressing objectives. In general, the curriculum aims at putting new scientific knowledge into practical use for the purpose of promoting a better and more modernized life. Our target of education is to train our students to be professionals who are not only technically knowledgeable but also practical, precise, honest, creative, and adaptive to team-work.

  2. The department of applied game technology will devote to the study and research in game software and hardware, equip students with the cutting edge technology and originality, and train students to be qualified for the game industry and therefore to promote digital game output values.

  3. Cultivation goal
  4. Game Industry requires manpower who are mastering in both hardware and software. The former includes interactive devices, CPU arithmetic scheme, motherboard design, data transmission infrastructure, memory design know-how, embedded system design, etc. Software embraces computer programming, 2D and 3D drafting, game engine application, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality, image recognition, internet technology, etc. Technically, it is an integrated business. The trend leads us to an expanding market with an increase in manpower demand and therefore in job opportunities in the near future. It is departmental goal to prepare students to be professionals in game industry through the following actions: to teach them game design skills, to motivate them to come up with brilliant ideas, to broaden their vision with systematic integration concepts, etc.

  2. Most game console suppliers or manufacturers are putting great efforts in developing new control mechanisms for games, which underlines the importance of interactive technology. It has strong connections to sensors, microprocessor and image recognition and is suitable for the department.

  4. Novel technology combined with originality results fully playable games. Games have multi-functions: leisure activity, rehabilitation, fitness, learning and training. Inter-discipline corporations are also our goals. The potential partners are departments of early childhood educare, health & leisure, applied English and applied Japennese.

  5. R & D in New Media Technology
  6. New media means that any technological piece consisted of the following elements: computer, optical and/or electronic devices, machinery, etc .
